About Me:

My background started with 22 years playing football competitively through Rep in Guelph, to Highschool, and accepting a scholarship to the University of Waterloo. After graduating, I continued my football carrier playing professionally in Sydney Australia. During my time spend in Sydney, I picked up my passion for olympic weightlifting from my coach Peter Upham who coaches at the national level. When returning to Canada, as a long time personal trainer, I fell into a position of coaching at the CrossFit Side. The transition from football to CrossFit as an athlete was a no brainer. I loved to train and thrive on competition with not only other athletes, but seeing what my own body is capable of. With that being said, I pride myself on being a Coach first, and athlete second with a “practice what I preach” mentality.

My Favorite WOD:

Fran: because it’s quick and dirty

My Least Favorite WOD:

Anything over 15 mins with running or rowing: I hate the mental game of trying to decide if I have paced properly. Although I’m working on it and it’s getting better.

About Me

Originally coming to the KW area from the great white north, Thunder Bay, ON, my love of all things fitness began at a very young age. My passion for sports grew as I got older with an endlest list of competitive activities. With athletics being such a huge part of my life it only made sense to begin a career in a field I feel so passionately about. They say if you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life, well I love all things fitness so I was set. I began working as a personal trainer at the age of 19 which eventually lead me to my RMT designation. I love the collaboration of being able to study someone’s movement pattern and build a treatment plan to help not only strengthen their bodies but also prevent injury in the long run. My work brought me down to the KW area, always looking for the next challenge. This is where I met my husband Nick and 2 years into my big life adventure we were able to open up our own functional fitness facility also incorporating my massage practice. Polsky’s Strength & Conditioning Ltd. I am so fortunate to live my passion each and every day alongside my better half, Nick.

In my profession, everyday is different and we never know what to expect. If it’s being ready for life and death scenarios or helping people on their worst day, I want to be as prepared as possible no matter what situation arises. We train your body AND mind! I also thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the opportunity I have to promote that to our youth. I enjoy learning even more then I do teaching. As I get older I realize I can still get better! You can live the life you always wanted and kick ass into your 90’s! Get off the
couch, quit the globo gym life and come train with us for your health and longevity. Our community is incredible and inclusive. You will always be met with a smile and leave with a high five.

All I ask for is your best effort and that you never quit. HARD WORK BEATS TALENT WHEN TALENT DOESN’T WORK HARD!

About Me

My love for sport and fitness began at a young age where I trained as a competitive gymnast until the age of 18. The sport taught me discipline, hard-work and gave me my competitive drive that I carry with me to this day. I gained a respect for the technicality and precision of the sport and the skills that come along with it. I also learned about community and how much it meant to share the experience with others. When I left gymnastics, I tried track, volleyball and cheerleading but nothing that truly drove me like gymnastics did until I stumbled across CrossFit 6 years ago. I did my first Crossfit Open in 2013 and was instantly hooked. Today, I have so much passion for a sport that continues to teach me so much every day and carries over into all over aspects of my life. As a coach, I am truly honoured to share this passion with others by helping them get where they want to be and showing them that a little hard work, determination and consistency can go a long way.

I grew up playing competitive rep, junior and varsity hockey for the first 24 years of my athletic career. When graduating from University of Waterloo, I hung up the skates and turned to CrossFit to fuel my competitive desires, and had some close regional attempts with my team at CrossFit Cambridge. Like hockey, my competitive CrossFit days are slowing, but am taking pride in coaching and developing athletes under the Mammoth Training Methods banner. I relate to the CrossFit technique > consistency > intensity mantra, and strive for efficient and proper movement. Looking forward to helping out at CrossFit PSC!

About Me:

I’ve been an athlete for as long as I can remember, and always enjoyed having a variety of sports to play when I was a kid growing up here in Waterloo. Hockey didn’t become my priority until my last two years of high school, and throughout my high school career I continued competing in basketball, swimming and track & field. I headed out west to play hockey for the Dinos at the University of Calgary in 2011 and spent my five years of eligibility training with some of the best athletes in my sport.

My favourite part of sports was always the grind of the training, and putting in the work — though I didn’t know much about CrossFit, I was immediately hooked after my first session training with Nick and Kait, and felt that competitive spirit come back. I’m excited to keep learning as an athlete and a coach through the fast-fitnessing that we do as a PSC family! I love connecting with people and being part of the positive atmosphere that is already so present in the culture already.

About Me:

Being a competitive gymnast for eight years, I quickly learned how easy it is to get swept up into being fully committed to sport. For most of my life, gymnastics was a part of every single thing I did and I didn’t really know what to do once I stopped competing. I began CrossFit hoping to find a new sport to fall in love with, and believe me, I did!  CrossFit has pushed me so far out of my comfort zone (actually touching a barbell) while still allowing me to use some familiar aspects of gymnastics.

I began coaching gymnastics as soon as I was old enough because I want to be able to provide young athletes with opportunities, skills and passion just like my coaches did for me.  I currently coach pre-competitive boys which has been such a great way to stay connected with gymnastics despite retiring once I began studying Geography and Environmental Management at the University of Waterloo.  I love that I’m able to give back to give back to my sport communities through coaching because I hugely appreciate what my coaches have done for me. It is amazing that I can now do the same for other athletes.

Name: Emma
Lawson

Position: Coach

About Me:

Emma Lawson has a strong passion for fitness. She grew up doing competitive dance for 10 years until the summer of 2018 when she decided to make the switch to CrossFit . Emma started training with her coach, Josh, with a goal of qualifying for the 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games. She was able to achieve that goal finishing 3rd place overall as well as being the Canadian National champion in her division. She had a spot at the 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games, but due to circumstances was not able to attend. Emma also went to Wodapalooza in Miami two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020 finishing 2nd both times in her division.

Outside of the gym, Emma loves to be outdoors, going for bike rides and walks. She really enjoys spending time with her friends as often as she can. Emma likes to do well in school and has found a way to successfully balance her social life, gym life and academic life.

Emma gravitates to new learning opportunities and is excited to start coaching to help her growth as an athlete and as a person. She likes to help other people which is why coaching at Polsky’s is going to be a great experience.
